Travel Span to issue press release on flights

Travel Span, which is reportedly on the verge of suspending its services to Guyana due to rising fuel prices, is likely to release a press statement on the issue today.

Stabroek News visited the Main Street office of the airline yesterday and was informed by the Administrative Assistant that the airline is currently in talks with senior management and will release a press statement today.

Minister of Public Works & Communication, Robeson Benn said on Wednesday that Travel Span may be following North American Airlines and suspending its services here soon due to the high cost of fuel.

Stabroek News spoke with a few travel agents yesterday, one of whom confirmed that the airline is leaving the market. Information obtained from the travel agents indicates that the airline is still flying with flights being booked as recent as Monday. An agent said they heard Travel Span is leaving but have not received any official word from the airline.

Some travel agencies that would usually book flights for the airline had not done so for more than a week.

While North American is leaving Delta Airlines will be coming in from later this year and American Airlines has also signalled its interest.
