Ballistic tests conducted on spent shells found at the crime scene at Bartica on Sunday firmly establish that the same weapons were used to commit killings and robberies at three other locations last year.

In a statement to the National Assembly at yesterday’s sitting, Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee said that the weapons were used in killings and robberies at Better Hope on August 21, 2007; Sheribana on October 1, 2007 and at Triumph on December 16, 2007.

He did not mention the Lusignan massacre of January 26, 2008.

Stating that the mission of the joint services was clear and straightforward, that is, “to seek, find, capture and bring to justice the perpetrators of these dastardly acts,” Rohee said that the joint services were continuing to work relentlessly on several fronts on “these heinous crimes.”

In terms of supporting the work of the joint services, he expressed deepest appreciation to the Trinidad and Tobago government for the assistance it has extended to Guyana.

He also welcomed the agreement reached by the PPP/C, TUF, AFC and GAP/ ROAR at the meeting with President Bharrat Jagdeo on Tuesday in which the parties agreed to work together in a number of areas to enhance the security situation in the country.

In his statement he took note of the names and other details of the persons who were murdered and of the robberies committed in Bartica at three locations – the Bartica Police Station, the Bartica Stelling and properties on First Avenue.
