The daughter of murdered Ruby, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) businessman, Habiboodean, and a man were yesterday remanded to prison after appearing at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court, charged with his murder.

Terry Lewton, 38, of Vergenoegen, EBE and Bibi Nazeela Habiboodean, 42, of Ruby, EBE were not required to plead to the capital offence and were remanded to prison by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.

It is alleged that Lewton, on February 15 at Ruby murdered Habiboodean. It is also alleged that on the said date at Ruby, Bibi Nazeela Habiboodean did counsel, procure and command the said Terry Lewton to commit the said offence.

The 76-year-old businessman died in the hospital after being severely beaten by an assailant at his home.

A relative had told Stabroek News that nothing was taken from the home and neither was it ransacked and the incident occurred reportedly because of a family feud. After Habiboodean died, his daughter along with four other persons was taken into custody. She and the man, who is said to be an employee of the gas station owned by Habiboodean were charged and then taken before the court yesterday. A number of relatives were present in court yesterday.

The duo will return to court on April 3 at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
