Channel 14/65 joins with all Guyanese in condemning the killings at Lusignan and Bartica supports the institutions and agencies responsible for bringing the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice.

In a press release, Multi-Technology Vision (MTV) says it is within this context that it is calling on all media houses, especially the electronic media, to use their influence to support the Joint Services efforts and to comfort and assist the bereaved families. MTV proposes that broadcasters dedicate programme time to highlight messages of non-violence and peace; refrain from airing programmes that threaten national unity and undermine efforts to bring the security situation under control; offer free public service airtime to the Joint Services and state agencies to broadcast special messages and appeals and stage a special telethon to raise funds for the victims’ families.

MTV says the media can use its influence to make a positive impact on the public, as was demonstrated during its campaign to encourage persons to refrain from violence during the 2006 general elections.
