Derek Walcott coming for Carifesta

The Nobel Prize winner Derek Walcott will be coming to Guyana for Carifesta. Speaking to the Stabroek News on Wednesday, Dr David Dabydeen who is on a visit to Guyana said that the renowned Caribbean poet has responded favourably to an invitation to come here and give a reading of his verse. He has also agreed to hold a master class for Guyanese writers.

Walcott has in the past expressed criticisms of Carifesta on the basis that most Caribbean governments do not provide adequate funding for the arts on a consistent basis, but splurge it on one event. His coming represents a major plus for Carifesta.
