A 20-year-old man was remanded on two indictable charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition when he stood before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Ryan Hescott of 155 Middle Road, La Penitence allegedly had in his possession on February 12 one .32 revolver and two live .32 rounds of ammunition. It is alleged that Hescott is the other man wanted in connection with the armed robbery on February 12 for which Reagan Rodrigues had been charged.

Hescott was arrested by police officers when he was exiting Court Two of the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where he has an ongoing trial.

Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson representing Hescott told the court that the charges against his client were trumped up. He said that if Hescott was a part of the charges instituted against Rodrigues, then he should have been charged at the same time.

Police prosecutor Desiree Fowler said that Hescott was not found at the time those charges were instituted and so he is now being charged.

Thompson deemed this sheer nonsense, saying since Hescott has an ongoing matter and the police were aware of where he was, he cannot therefore understand why he is only now being charged.

Thompson made an application for bail but Fowler objected.

She said that the accused had a similar matter in Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys’s court and was out on bail when the present offences occurred.

Hescott has to return to court on March 10.
