In first two months…

Twelve persons lost their lives on the country’s roadways for the first two months of the year as compared to 30 persons in the same period last year, the Guyana Police Force said.

Meantime, as the zero tolerance traffic enforcement campaign, “Operation Safeway” continues, 5,366 cases have been made against defaulting motorists for last month with the most prevalent being that of speeding for which 818 cases were made out.

A police statement said that other cases made out include 81 breaches of traffic lights, 544 cases of overloaded minibuses, 349 cases of failure to wear seat belts, 82 cases of dangerous driving, 38 cases of tinted windscreens, 693 cases of obstruction, 638 cases of failure to conform to sign, 268 cases of failure to wear safety helmet, 357 cases of breach of road service licence and 396 cases of unlicenced drivers.
