Workers at Hotel Tower are apprehensive at what they say are signs that the management might be changing hands and their union, the Clerical and Commercial Workers Union (CCWU), has written to the hotel’s management requesting an explanation.

Speaking to Stabroek News yesterday, General Secretary of the CCWU Grantley Culbard said that the union might have cause to give the hotel management an ultimatum if it did not receive a response soon.

He said the management was tight-lipped about what has been happening in recent weeks when contacted by the union.

Culbard said that as of now, the CCWU was unsure who the potential investors were, if any. But he said that staff have been seeing persons inspecting the grounds, the buildings and facilities. The workers are said to be uneasy about their future.

The CCWU General Secretary said that only last week staff of the hotel had a meeting with the union on their concerns. Culbard said that in addition to writing to the management of the hotel, the union has also written to Minister of Labour Manzoor Nadir on the issue.

Stabroek News was told at the hotel yesterday that the person in charge, R.L. Singh was out of the country and was due to return tomorrow.
