A man was stabbed to death yesterday reportedly by his close friend after the two had an argument over money. Up to press time last night, his assailant had not yet been arrested.

Dead is Sherwin Jansen, 27, of Second Street, Alberttown. Police in a statement yesterday said the stabbing death of Jansen, a deportee, occurred around 9 am yesterday at Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge.

The man’s uncle Robert Jansen told Stabroek News yesterday that he was not sure how his nephew was killed, but when he learnt of the incident he went to the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary to identify his nephew. He said he heard that his nephew was stabbed by his friend.

He said Sherwin, who returned to Guyana in August last year, was not employed, but his mother supported him financially. He said Sherwin’s parents and siblings live in the United States.

According to the police, investigations have revealed that Jansen was involved in an argument over money with another deportee during which he was stabbed about his body.

He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital by public-spirited persons but was pronounced dead on arrival.
