Man charged again over attempted murder of girlfriend

A 22-year-old-man was placed on $150,000 bail yesterday when he appeared on charges of attempted murder and possession of stolen property before Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Dwayne Lane of D’Urban Street, Lodge allegedly attempted to murder his girlfriend Elsha Deane on June 8, 2006 during which she suffered gunshot wounds. The matter was formerly in Court Six of the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court but was dismissed after the Virtual Complainant repeatedly failed to show up.

Lane was later rearrested and charged again.

The accused was also charged yesterday with possession of stolen property. Lane allegedly had in his possession a motorcycle that was said to be stolen. He told the court that the motorcycle belonged to a friend but he could not state the friend’s name when asked by the magistrate.

The magistrate placed Lane on $100,000 bail on the attempted murder charge and $50,000 bail for possession of stolen property. The matter was transferred to Court Five for March 7.
