The PYARG says 7000 youths from five regions recently benefited from a Guyana Youths Living Safely Project (GYLS) and it intends to host a series of workshops in preparation for the launching of its second HIV intervention project.

The GYLS Project, “the Award and AIDS” which was hosted by the President’s Youth Award: Republic of Guyana (PYARG) was an enormous success. According to a press release from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport the Project was funded by the government and by Global Fund. It aimed at reducing risky behaviour among 7,269 youth through the development of life skills.

According to the ministry the PYARG is set to start its second project ‘Caravan of Hope.’ This project entails “a Mobile Theatre which hopes to make a greater impact on the lives of another 7,000 youths” between the ages of 14 and 25. It will provide prevention services, and will be equipped with counsellors and peer educators for community outreach. In keeping with this the PYARG hosted a peer counselling workshop on March 8 and 9 and will host a theatre, drama and script session on March 29 and 30 and on April 5 and 6. A peer education workshop will also be held on April 12 and 13.
