Driver denies causing death of motorcyclist

A 51-year-old man was placed on $425,000 bail after he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on charges of causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid insurance policy.

Winston Evelyn of 3 Water Street, Kingston allegedly drove his car PHH 9874 in a manner dangerous to the public, fatally hitting down Marvin Chalmers who was riding a motorcycle.

Evelyn pleaded not guilty to both offences which took place on March 25 at Regent and New Garden streets, Georgetown.
Evelyn’s lawyer Kim Kyte-John in an application for bail told the court that her client is not a flight risk and will turn up for his trial.

The prosecution did not object to bail and the man was placed on $400,000 bail on the charge of causing death by dangerous driving and $25,000 on the charge of driving without valid insurance.
The matter continues on May 29.
