Salem duo for trial over shop owner murder

Magistrate Fazil Azeez at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court yesterday committed two men accused of beating another man to death in 2005 to stand trial in the High Court after finding that a prima facie case had been made out against them.
Kumar Lall and Ruben Williams both of Salem, East Bank Essequibo were charged with the murder of Michael Reid. It is alleged that on July 29, 2005, the duo murdered Reid. Reports are that on the day in question, the two accused had been drinking in Reid’s shop when an argument erupted and a scuffle ensued. They allegedly lashed Reid about his body with pieces of wood causing his death. The matter was reported and following police investigations, they were arrested and charged.

At the Leonora Magistrate’s Court yesterday, the magistrate said that enough evidence was led to find that a prima facie case was made out against the accused and committed them to stand trial at the next sitting of the High Court.
