Man denies larceny and escape charges

A 41-year-old man who allegedly stole $276,000 worth of items was remanded to prison on Thursday when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Derrick Shaw of Albouystown pleaded not guilty to the charges of simple larceny and escape from lawful custody when they were read to him by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.
It is alleged that between January 20 and February 5 Shaw stole a quantity of items worth $276,000, property of Nesha Da Silva, and on April 11 being in lawful custody for a break and enter charge he escaped.

Shaw told the magistrate that he did not have a fixed address in Albouystown and he was promptly told that the court would provide him with “a direct lot number at lot 12 Camp Street.”

The accused was refused bail and the matter will continue on April 25 in Court Four.
