Armed gang attacks Esso

– robs worker of salary

A gang of around four men, two of whom were armed, robbed the Esso Service station at Regent Street early Saturday morning and escaped with an employee’s salary.

Three employees of the service station were on duty when two men walked up to them and pulled guns, according to reports. The men demanded cash and threatened to shoot if the money was not handed over.

An employee at the service station, who was not around at the time but was briefed on the incident, told Stabroek News yesterday that it was some time after 1 am when the men entered Esso. He said they held two of the staff at gunpoint, grabbed $35,000 and then made off on foot.
It is believed that the remaining members of the gang were on lookout during the robbery. The four men then fled the scene.

Esso service station had been hit by bandits on a number of occasions previously.
