-Guyana to field 2,000 participants

Preparations for Guyana to host Carifesta X are underway with auditions to select a 2000-strong delegation to perform for the August festival.

Artistic director of the Carifesta Secretariat Paloma Mohammed said that Guyana as the host for the festival has a prominent role to play, a Government Information Agency release reported her as saying.

Auditions for persons to take part in the celebrations begin for 50 male dancers at the National Cultural Centre (NCC) starting tomorrow. Interested persons up to age 30, who think they can dance are invited to be a part of the audition.

This group is being selected as a dance troupe for the opening ceremony and the dance will be coordinated by the Classique Dance group.

A talent search competition will be launched soon to discover more talent from various parts of the country. This will be done by the Carifesta Secretariat in collaboration with the National Communication Network (NCN).

Auditions will also be held to identify 1,000 youths for another feature of the opening ceremony.
The release also stated that a 100-piece national steel orchestra will be on show for Carifesta.
The Joint Services Coordinating Council headed by Chairman of the Joint Services Cultural Committee, Cecil Bovell will be undertaking this programme.
