The Environment Community Health Organisation (ECHO) says on World Environment Day it is asking citizens to turn off all electrical power supply for one half hour and use the time to reflect on  the need to practise good environmental stewardship.

In a press release ECHO said though it does not believe that Guyana contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions the act of turning off the power from homes will be significant. World Environment Day will be celebrated on Thursday and the exercise will be held from 7 pm to 7.30 pm.

ECHO said too its observances will also include a public awareness campaign on the implications of global warning and climate change. This will be done by means of a forum hosted under the theme ‘Towards Good Environmental Stewardship in our Local Communities.’ The forum will be held on Wednesday at 10 am at Cara Lodge, Quamina Street.
