Maharaja charged in $1.9M jewels theft

Principal Magistrate Krishndat Persaud on Monday granted bail to a West Berbice man charged with stealing jewellery valued $1.9M. 
 
Maharaja Evans, 20, was released on $75,000 bail when he appeared at the Blairmont Court to answer to charges of break and enter and larceny.

It is alleged that on May 27, Evans, of Bush Lot Village, broke into the dwelling of Vijay Ramjit, of the same village, and stole a quantity of gold jewellery. Evans was at first not required to plead when the indictable charge was read to him. But after an application was made for summary disposal he pleaded not guilty……
