Ali-Hack confirmed as DPP

Shalimar Ali-Hack was confirmed as the substantive Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) nearly two months ago.

Stabroek News was informed that the commission met in April and decided to confirm Ali-Hack who had been acting in the capacity since 2004 after Justice Roxanne George vacated the post to take up an appointment in the High Court.

Secretary of the JSC, Chandra Jagnandan confirmed yesterday that Ali-Hack is no longer acting in the position. She noted that Ali-Hack had earlier been appointed to act as DPP and that the JSC agreed to make her substantive DPP.

Ali-Hack has practised in the chambers of the DPP for a number of years and had acceded to the position of Deputy DPP when Justice George held the post of DPP.
