A 22-year-old man was placed on $170,000 bail after he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle for allegedly forging and uttering a Caribbean Examination Council Certificate (CXC).

It is alleged that between June 13 and 26, 2006 Lystuel Yohanne George of 176 West La Penitence Housing Scheme forged a CXC certificate for the year 2004 purporting to show that he had gained a grade two in Mathematics and a grade three in English Language.

On June 2, 2008 George uttered the said certificate to woman constable Jocelyn Bobb knowing the said document to be false.
He pleaded not guilty to both charges.  
    
His lawyer Glen Hanoman told the magistrate that the matter stemmed from his client trying to seek employment with the Guyana Police Force.

He said that George was arrested when he reported to the police station as directed by the police and so he does not pose a flight risk.
Police prosecutor Sherwin Mathews did not object to bail and the magistrate placed George on $85,000 bail on each charge.  
He has to return to court on June 19.
