- court hears

A 23-year-old man who allegedly stole a gold chain worth $95,000 was placed on bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Quincy White of Guyhoc Squatting Area initially pleaded guilty to the charge of larceny from the person.

However, after listening to his explanation Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

It is alleged that on June 9 at Georgetown White stole a $95,000 gold chain from Ryan Gobin.
According to White, on the said day he was in the vicinity of Demico House in Stabroek, Georgetown playing a game with a number of people when a police patrol approached. White said that everyone scattered when they saw the police. White told the court that he didn’t know about the chain but he offered to replace it for Gobin. White was granted $25,000 bail and the matter will continue on June 25 in Court Four.
