A 36-year-old Professional Guard Service (PGS) driver was killed yesterday morning on Sheriff Street when his head was crushed by a Cevon’s waste management truck.
At the time of the mishap, Pearson Adams, a resident of Lot 115 Pineapple Street, East Ruimveldt was a pillion rider on his colleague’s motorcycle and they were on their way to collect their vehicle. He succumbed to the injuries he sustained to his head and face about half an hour after arriving at the Georgetown Public Hospital. He also sustained injuries to his hand. The rider of the motorcycle, Duane Fraser was treated at a private medical institution for minor injuries.
According to reports reaching this newspaper, the motor cycle the two were on was alongside a Cevon’s truck and as they turned into Craig Street, the truck also turned.
The two collided and it was during this time that Adams fell off and his head was crushed, according to reports.
When he arrived at the hospital around 11:25 am, Adams was bleeding through his eyes, ears and mouth. He was in an unconscious state.
Chief Executive Officer of PGS, Dougall Kirkpatrick, expressing his shock at the incident, told Stabroek News that Adams had worked with the company as a driver for less than a year.
He said that he had earlier that morning attended a seminar dealing with providing all the systems to help people drive safely.
He said that he and Fraser left the seminar, to go and collect their vehicle for work the following day.
After receiving word of the accident, Kirkpatrick said that he rushed down to the hospital only to find Adams in an unconscious state.
He recalled that Adams had always done his job well and had not been involved in any problems.
