‘Smokey’ remanded over break and enter

A 19-year-old Matthews Ridge man who allegedly stole $60,000 worth of items was remanded to prison when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Orson Williams, called ‘Smokey’, of Port Kaituma, North West pleaded not guilty to charges of break and enter and larceny and simple larceny.

It is alleged that between June 7 and 9 the accused broke and entered the office of the Port Kaituma Electricity Committee and stole items worth $10,000. Further, it is alleged that on June 3 he stole the property of Elroy Alam worth $50,000.

There is a third charge to be levelled against the accused. Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle refused Williams bail and the matter is to continue today.
