High intensity rainfall events likely

More rain is expected this week and is likely to continue into next month with average to above average rainfall, the Ministry of Agriculture says.

In a press release yesterday, the Ministry stated that the Hydrometeorological Service said that the rainy season is projected to continue until July and there are reasonably high probabilities of average to above average rainfall during June and July across Guyana.  “This means that short duration high intense rainfall events are very likely to occur in June and July, thus necessary precautions should be exercised during this period”, the release stated.

Meantime, the average amount of rainfall recorded between 8 am on Sunday and 8 am yesterday was 10 millimetres along coastal and near inland locations.

The release stated that intermittent rainfall is expected during the course of this week, with occasional moderate to heavy rains likely over Regions 1-6, 9 and 10.
