West Berbice student perishes in accident

A 14-year-old student of a private secondary school at Bath, New Housing Scheme, West Berbice died after he was struck by a car around 12:30 pm yesterday on the Bath Settlement Public Road.

The student, Harpaul `Kevin’ Prassada of Bush Lot Village who attended Hamilton’s Academy, was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital (FWH) but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Reports are that he and a friend had gone to Bath Settlement to purchase lunch. Persons said that the friend had already crossed the road and was waiting on Prassada to join him but he was hit before doing so.

This newspaper learnt that the driver, Kishore Deodat, 38, of Blairmont was returning home in his AT 170 Toyota Corona motorcar, HB 5116, when disaster struck.

Deodat, who was taken into custody after the accident, reportedly said that the child was crossing the road when he was hit.
The child’s grieving mother, Janet Prassada told Stabroek News that she received the news around 1 pm that her son was involved in an accident.

She said when she arrived at the FWH shortly after she was told that he was already dead.
She recalled fondly that she had packed his “drink and water” and saw him off to school yesterday morning. She was not prepared for the shocking news she received and is finding it hard to cope.
