A 24-year-old man was yesterday remanded by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton when he appeared before her on a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose trafficking.

Abednego Accra of 91 Block E, South Sophia was charged with having in his possession 1,600 grammes of cannabis at Phase II Lethem, Central Rupununi. He was remanded although his attorney Adrian Thompson told the magistrate that the next date for the court at Lethem is September 9 and there is a possibility that the magistrate would not sit then.

Police Prosecutor Deneashwar Nauth said that Thompson could not anticipate whether or not the magistrate would sit and asked that bail be refused.

Accra has to return to court on September 9 at Lethem.
