A 20-year-old man who stole a glass door and a number of tools was given the choice of a 10-month-sentence or a $30,000 fine when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Navin Singh of Grove, East Bank Demerara pleaded guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to him.

He stole the items valued together at $57,000, property of Robert Mohabir.

On June 22, the virtual complainant parked his Canter vehicle on Independence Boulevard and went into the La Penitence Market. While there he was alerted by persons that his vehicle had been broken into. The defendant was pursued and apprehended by public-spirited citizens and the items were found in his possession.

Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle sentenced Singh to 10 months imprisonment but gave him the option of paying a $30,000 fine.
