Cabinet recently granted “no objection” to contracts in a number of sectors including security for the purchase of seven extra-cab vehicles for the Guyana Police Force.

A Government Infor-mation Agency (GINA) press release said Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon made the announcement at his post-Cabinet briefing on Thursday.

Luncheon announced the go-ahead for three contracts valued at US$1,033,800 to the Guyana Power and Light. The contracts are for the procurement of meters and meter seals at US$205,500; the purchase of goods for distribution system at US$705,500 and the procurement of distribution transformers at US$122,800.

In the housing sector a $44.6M contract was cleared for the construction of roads, drains and structures at Block E and AA Sophia, George-town, Region Four. A $43.9M contract was also granted for the construction of an exhibition and conference centre and a bandstand at McKenzie, Linden, Region Ten.

Meanwhile the go-ahead was also given for the supply of fuel and lubricants to the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority at a cost of $63.2M.
