Tomorrow and Monday, when the viewing of the body and funeral of former President Arthur Chung are to take place, have been declared national days of mourning and all flags will be flown at half mast.

Former President Chung will be laid to rest on Monday at a state funeral at the National Cultural Centre and a public viewing of the late leader’s body is scheduled for tomorrow at the same venue.

Tomorrow the body will be at the cultural centre from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm and a book of condolence will be opened, a release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said yesterday.

The funeral service will be on Monday after which the former President would be interred at the Seven Ponds at the Botanical Gardens and his interment will be with full military honours. President Bharrat Jagdeo will deliver the nation’s farewell, GINA said.

Chung, who was Guyana’s first President and served the country from 1970 to 1980, died at age 90 earlier this week following multiple medical complications.
