A 20-year-old taxi driver was remanded when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on Tuesday to face firearm and ammunition possession charges.

It is alleged that on June 20, Damian Singh of 264 Independence Boulevard had in his possession one .22 Beretta pistol and one live round .22 ammunition without being the holder of a valid licence.

His lawyer Deborah Backer in her application for bail told the court that the matter stemmed from a domestic issue and  neither the weapon nor the ammunition was found on her client. Police prosecutor Deneashwar Nauth however said that both of the items were found in Singh’s right side pants waist.

He was remanded and has to return to court on August 9.
