A pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing the Number 45 Village, Corentyne road on Sunday after he reportedly tried to cross from behind a parked truck.

In a press release police said Amorjet Persaud, 36, of Yakusari South, Black Bush Polder died after he was struck by a motor car driven by Gerald Depoo of Port Mourant. The accident occurred around 6.30 pm.

Persaud was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.

Depoo is in custody assisting with investigations.
