Health plan instituted for Carifesta

The Carifesta Secretariat says a comprehensive health system is being put in place to cater to medical needs that may arise during Carifesta and to identify any epidemic that may break out.

Culture minister Dr Frank Anthony said in a press release that medical teams will be assigned to all the major venues such as the Providence stadium, the National Park and the Sophia Exhibition Centre.

A surveillance unit will also be put in place so that any epidemic can be identified and treated early. The health ministry also plans to have ambulances on stand-by at the venues.

Meanwhile, the Secretariat said restaurants and individuals will also be trained, certified and issued with ‘food handlers’ certificates leading up to the August 22-31 festival. Anthony said though the Secretariat does not anticipate any health emergencies it is taking these measures to ensure public safety.
