A police constable is under close arrest after a gun and ammunition, which he was unable to account for, was found in his possession on Saturday.

Police, in a press release said that acting on information received; at about 6:15 pm yesterday, the police conducted a search on a man at a nightspot at Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, and found a .38 revolver and 6 matching rounds in his possession.

The release said that public-spirited persons called the police after the man was seen to be under the influence of alcohol and behaving disorderly.

The man was identified as a police constable and could not account for the firearm and is under close arrest as the investigations continue, the police said.
