The passenger who opened the emergency exit of a Delta aircraft when the plane landed from New York on Friday at Timehri has been placed on station bail.

Stabroek News understands that the man was taken to Eve Leary where he was questioned and was placed on bail as the police seek legal advice.

The Guyanese citizen was returning from New York and was travelling first class.

He refused to wait for the plane to open to allow passengers to disembark and instead opened the emergency exit door and went down the emergency slide onto the airport tarmac. He reportedly became agitated after no instructions were being issued to the passengers after the plane landed.

The plane was grounded as a result of the deactivation of the emergency exit and parts and engineers were reportedly flown in to fix it.
