Zeelugt man shot, injured

A 38-year-old Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo businessman was hospitalized after being shot twice on Sunday afternoon at his house by armed men.

According to a police press release, the incident occurred at approximately 6.20 pm.

Reports are that Shazam Khan was sitting with relatives at his home when two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, made their way into the yard.

The man discharged several rounds hitting Khan in his chest and abdomen. The two men then escaped leaving the man’s family to rush him to the hospital.

Khan is still hospitalized and is receiving medical attention, the release said. The police have since recovered two .32 spent shells at the scene and investigations are continuing.
