GECOM commissioner Joseph dies

Attorney-at-law and Commissioner on the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Lloyd Joseph, 73, died following a heart attack at the Bellevue Hospital in New York, USA on Monday.

Lloyd JosephJoseph of Republic Park, East Bank Demerara was also the first General Manager of the National Insurance Scheme serving from the inception when it was established in 1969.

Expressing condolences to Joseph’s family members, PNCR General Secretary Oscar Clarke said that Joseph served Guyana well in whatever capacity he served.

At the time of his death Joseph was awaiting triple bypass surgery, he said.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela, three children and three grandchildren.

In a statement yesterday afternoon, the PNCR said it wished to “record its gratitude for the services rendered by the late Lloyd Joseph both at the state and Party levels.

The Party benefited from his counsel, advice and guidance on a range of issues and his passing will certainly create a gap in the institutional memory of the organisation.”
