Police have detained a Linden driver after a piece of a licence plate was found on the scene of a recent hit and run accident at Soesdyke which resulted in the death of Milton Xavier.

According to information reaching Stabroek News police had detained the owner of the car for questioning which resulted in the arrest of the man who was driving the car the said day.

Reliable sources said that on the day in question the driver left for the airport some minutes to 4 am to make a pick up and from all indications ran over the body of the man who was lying on the highway. It is believed that the man was already dead when the car ran over him.

According to a source close to the dead man, the two were drinking the said night and had left for home in their drunken stupor some minutes after 1 am but his partner reached his home before him and he was left to continue his journey on his own. Worried that the man did not return home, his relatives went in search of him and then learnt that his body was discovered on the highway.
