Randy Sanichar, 33, of Lot 33 Friendship, East Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to him.

It is alleged that between April 4 and June 13 Sanichar stole 51 bags of parboiled rice and 30 bags of white rice together worth $719,907.

Sanichar was represented by attorney-at-law Roger Yearwood who made an application for reasonable bail.

The prosecution did not object to bail and informed the court that nothing was recovered.

September 19 is the next date set for Sanichar to appear in court.
