Stabbed to death at Frenchman Dam

A 35-year-old man was stabbed to death at a drinking spot in Frenchman Dam, Essequibo River on Sunday after he and his assailant had an argument over an old misunderstanding.

The dead man’s name has been given as Dexter Samuels of Canal Number One Polder, West Bank Demerara. The suspect who hails from East Ruimveldt is in police custody assisting police with their investigations.

Police sources told Stabroek News yesterday that Samuels, the suspect and several other men were drinking at the bar late Sunday night. An argument subsequently broke out between Samuels and the suspect over a misunderstanding that they had last year.

This newspaper was told that the dead man broke a glass bottle and made several attempts to stab the other man. However the man armed himself with a knife and stabbed Samuels in the left arm pit. He died shortly after.

On Monday morning a team of police ranks was dispatched to Frenchman Landing after receiving a report that a man was murdered there. The report was received around 3 am at the Mabura Outpost.
Due to the long distance and the rough terrain the ranks had to endure, they did not return until early yesterday morning.
