Police round up East Bank youths

Police last evening rounded up a number of youths from the East Bank communities of Agricola, McDoom and Bagotville.

Up to press time last night, the youths, said to be over two dozen in number, were in custody at the Brickdam police station. The reason for the youths’ detention was not clear.

Groups of persons waited outside the station for word on their relatives last night.  One woman told this newspaper that her relative was on the street at just about 7 pm last evening when three vanloads of police, dressed in black swooped on the area and detained several youths, including her relative.

One man related a similar experience. Another man said that a relative along with friends were in their home using the computer when the police came in and ordered them into the van.  It was also stated that some of the youths were coming home from work when they were picked up. Relatives said that they had no idea as to the reason for the youths’ detention.
