The .32 magnum revolver that was found in the possession of Sheldon Gorrick on July 28 was discovered to be licensed to a Bartica resident who was robbed in February during the Bartica massacre.

Gorrick, 27, of Third Street, Agricola had appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court last Thursday and was remanded. He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and seven rounds of ammunition.

It is alleged that on July 28 the accused had in his possession one .32 magnum and seven rounds of ammunition without being the holder of a valid firearm and ammunition licence.

According to a police press release, investigations revealed that the firearm belonged to a miner, Chunilall Babulall, of Bartica, Essequibo whose home was attacked and robbed by armed gunmen who attacked the community during the Bartica killings on February 17, 2008.
