Police probing death of Tuschen woman

The death of a 41-year-old Tuschen woman on Sunday is currently being investigated by the police, a press release said last evening.

Annette Singh of 1274 Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo died on Sunday at the Leonora Cottage Hospital. The woman, the release said, was admitted to the hospital after an alleged altercation with her reputed husband.

Stabroek News understands that Singh and her husband had an argument last Saturday night. The man admitted to neighbours that he had slapped the woman and she fell. Residents told this newspaper that both Singh and her husband drank frequently.

Singh’s reputed husband was arrested and is in police custody assisting with investigations.

According to the police release, a post-mortem examination was conducted on the woman’s body yesterday by Dr. Nehaul Singh. The cause of death was determined to be haemorrhage of the brain due to blunt trauma at the back of the head.
