Girl dies in Barnwell accident

A 16-year-old girl was killed yesterday morning after she was hit by a car on the Barnwell Public Road, East Bank Essequibo.

Dead is Davi Persaud of Essequibo Coast.

According to a police press release the fatal accident occurred around 11:45 am and the driver of the motor vehicle has been taken into custody to assist with the investigations.

Investigations have revealed, the release said, that Persaud, who is staying with relatives at Barnwell, allegedly attempted to cross the road and was struck down by a motor car. She was later taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigations are continuing.
