Trailed by police, men on bike hit by bus

Two men on a motorcycle who were riding south along the western section of Camp Street and were being trailed by police were involved in an accident with a bus and one was hospitalized and the other taken into custody.

The bikers were hit by a bus at the junction of Church Street.

Police carried the injured man to the hospital while the other was taken into custody. The incident occurred just after 10 last night and according to reports, a police patrol had been watching the men’s movements after they breached road traffic signs and had been seen riding up the one way.

This newspaper was told by eyewitnesses on the scene that the men were riding a silver grey scooter and were hit by the bus which was proceeding east and was surprised by the bike coming up the one way.

It was when they were hit the men apparently realized that they were being trailed by the lawmen who immediately tried to capture them. In an escape bid, one of the men headed in the direction of North Road.

However an eyewitness said he had no idea that the men were being trailed and he ran to the assistance of the injured man and helped place him in the police vehicle. A few policemen ran in search of the other man and eventually apprehended them.

Up to press time last night the police were scouring the area since it is believed that one of the men may have had a gun.
