Alleged thief gets $20,000 bail

Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry last week granted $20,000 bail to a father of seven accused of theft.
Steve Davis of 661 East Ruimveldt, Housing Scheme pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawfully obtaining construction equipment when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It was alleged that between March 1 and 31, at Georgetown, Davis stole one construction plane valued $30,000 and a DeWalt drill valued $20,000.

Davis’s attorney asked the court to grant him bail on the grounds that he is married and is the breadwinner of his family. However, the prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that some of the items that were reported stolen were found in Davis’s possession during their investigation.
Davis was ordered to appear in Court One on September 27.
