Taxi driver charged with kidnapping woman

A taxi driver who allegedly kidnapped a woman  was remanded to prison on Wednesday when he appeared before Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Avery Scott, 32,  was charged with kidnapping Tracy Daniels and he was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

It is alleged that on the 9th August Scott picked up Daniels outside Demico House to take her home but instead drove to a house in Victoria, East Coast Demerara.

The prosecution stated that  from information gathered Scott on his way to take Tracy home picked up a male passenger and told her that she would be dropped home when he had dropped off the man. Instead he drove her to Victoria and allegedly threatened to kill her if she resisted. Tracy subsequently managed to telephone her sister who in turn called the police. The police arrived at the Victoria home and Scott was arrested.

Scott’s lawyer applied for an early date for trial but Magistrate Beharry asked for the matter to be sent to the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

The case is to continue on 25th August.
