Payroll shoot-out on Lamaha

Street Bandit believed hit
Shots were exchanged yesterday near the corner of Lamaha and Thomas streets around 3.30 pm when a gunman attempted to rob the payroll courier at the COPS security service headquarters.

According to the operations manager, Chris Thompson, around 3:30 pm employees arrived with a small payroll for senior staff. Upon stopping at the gate to hand over the payroll to other employees the courier was attacked and the money he was carrying was demanded. He handed over the money to the bandit in keeping with company policy. But members of the tactical unit who were in the compound at the time fired several rounds at the man after determining that that area was safe with no pedestrians or traffic in the way of harm. The man returned at least three shots at the security officers, Thompson said.

Thompson also said that the man dropped most of the payroll after he was hit.
He said that the ranks are sure that at least three bullets hit the gunman who made a mad dash for a white car that was parked facing south along the eastern carriageway of Thomas Street.
Investigations are continuing.
