Man remanded over indecent assault in minibus

A young man who allegedly indecently assaulted a woman in a minibus was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Leroy Martin pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawfully and maliciously assaulting Michelle Benn and being in unlawful possession of a cutlass. It is alleged that on August 29 at Lombard Street while in a minibus on its way to Georgetown from Diamond, Martin who was sitting next to Benn started rubbing her legs. He then told her that she had to pay his bus fare. When she got out of the bus at the South bus park in front of Demico House he started to follow her. Benn subsequently found a police officer and related the incident to him. Martin was subsequently arrested and charged. The prosecution objected to bail, stating that Martin may be a threat to society.

Magistrate Ogle ordered that the accused be remanded until his next court appearance on September 28.
