A minibus driver who allegedly robbed his employer of a quantity of cash at gunpoint was remanded to prison last week, when he appear-ed before Magistrate Hazel-Octive Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Thirty-one-year-old Johan Huston of lot 38 Industrial Site, Ruimveldt is accused of committing robbery under arms against his employer Haslyn Braithwaite and he was not allowed to plea to the indictable charge.
Attorney-at-law Patrice Henry stated that the accused was paid $5,000 daily to operate Braithwaite’s minibus but on August 19 Huston only received $3,500. When he enquired from Braithwaite about the rest of his money, an argument ensued and shortly after Huston was paid his remaining $1,500. Huston then left, the attorney said.

However Braithwaite made a report to the police station stating that Huston had robbed him of some money.

Huston was later arrested and charged with the offence.

Huston’s lawyer made a bail application for him. However, the prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that on the day in question on Hadfield Street, Lodge after the argument between Huston and Braithwaite over the remaining $1,500, Huston left and allegedly returned with a firearm which he used to rob Braithwaite of $14,000.

The magistrate refused bail and ordered Huston to be remanded to prison. The matter is scheduled to continue on Friday.
