Jehovah’s Witnesses will congregate at the National Park this weekend for the church’s annual convention to be held under the theme ‘Guided by God’s Spirit’.

It is expected that more than 4,000 persons will attend the Friday to Sunday convention which will focus on “why reliable guidance is needed today.” The convention, which is open to the general public, will also address the question of where people can turn to for trustworthy advice in all aspects of life.

According to a press release from the church, which has a presence in than 235 lands around the world, it is known for its public preaching activity and the distribution of the Watchtower and Awake magazines.

In Guyana there are some 29 congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses and every year two mega conventions are held. The three-day convention was held in Berbice two weeks ago.

Giving an insight into what the event will entail the press release said that on Friday night the question ‘Why be guided by God’s spirit?’ will be answered while the keynote address will explain the role of Holy Spirit in the outworking of God’s purpose for mankind and the earth.

On Saturday the church will look at how individuals, whether young or old, can be empowered by Holy Spirit to resist temptation, cope with discouragement, withstand harmful peer pressure, and endure adversity.

Those interested of joining the church can be baptized on Saturday.

The last day of the convention will see a public discourse under the title ‘Reap blessings through Jehovah’s spirit-guided King!’ and this will focus on the one person appointed by God to rule with true justice and love – Jesus Christ. A full-costume drama set in the days of early Christianity will be the feature of the afternoon programme.

The programme will be presented in English and will be translated in American Sign Language.
